Field Review: Panasonic G2 (Day 2)

To give the Panasonic G2a first go-around, I took it to my usual stomping grounds of Union Square and the East Village. I loaded the camera with the 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens—giving it a bright, fairly standard view that is perfect for crowded street-level photography and large area shots.

Field Review: Panasonic G2 (Day 1)

I haven’t worked with the Micro Four Thirds system much. It’s still a pretty new tech, and between its price, complexity, and smaller-than-SLR sensor size, I wasn’t entirely sold on the concept. Then I got my hands on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2Micro Four Thirds camera, and while I’m still not certain of the future of M4/3rds, it’s definitely growing on me.

CanonEXPO Hands-On: Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 L IS and 8-15mm F4 L Fisheye Zoom Lenses

Canon showed off at its expo two new zoom lenses that are as different as night and day. On one side, the 70-300mm F4-5.6 L IS zoom lens offers a range of high-powered telephoto reach with a seemingly excellent image stabilization system. On the other side, the 8-15mm F4 L fisheye zoom lens offers a wide to really-super-ultra-wide angle, accomplishing some impressive optical gymnastics in the process. I spent some time with both lenses, and I was impressed (and at one point, amazed) by what I saw.

Samsung Unveils HMX-T10 HD Camcorder

Samsung just announced the HMX-T10, a new HD-capable camcorder. It’s small, smooth, stylish, and sports a slightly slanted lens that Samsung claims lets users “enjoy their recording experience without any discomfort to their arm or wrist.” It can record 1920 x 1080 video at 60 interpolated frames per second and features a 10X optical zoom lens, an SD/SDHC card slot, and a 2.7-inch touchscreen.
